MARIETTA – The City of Marietta is pleased to announce that IKEA U.S. is the newest addition to the Franklin Gateway Corridor, joining other top brands like Atlanta United FC and The Home Depot Technology Center.

The IKEA Marietta store will be built on the site of the former Marquis Place apartment complex which the City purchased through the 2013 Redevelopment Bond in July 2015 and an adjacent property consisting of 6 acres for a total foot print of 34 acres. Store plans, comprising over 300,000 square feet, will reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide.

“After 10 successful years in our Midtown location, we are excited to expand our presence with a new store in the Atlanta-area,” said Lars Petersson, IKEA U.S. president. “This proposed Marietta store will bring the unique family-friendly shopping experience closer to customers in Cobb County and beyond.”

In addition to the hundreds that will be employed during the construction phase, hundreds of team members would join the IKEA family when the new store opens. The future IKEA Marietta will also provide significant annual sales and property tax revenue for local governments and the school system. According to City Manager, Bill Bruton, this will be the largest single retailer development ever built in Marietta and Cobb County.

About the Marietta Redevelopment Bond

In November 2013, the Citizens of the City of Marietta passed a $68 million Redevelopment Bond of which $64 million was allocated towards the Franklin Gateway Redevelopment initiative.  Franklin Gateway bond funds have been invested to purchase four aging apartment complexes and a blighted retail center on Franklin Gateway leading to new private investment and the creation of thousands of jobs in the corridor.
