MARIETTA - The City of Marietta is pleased to announce it has been recognized by Smart Cities Connect with the 2019 Community Engagement Award for the Marietta “Trash Talk” app. The award was given on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Annual Awards Gala in Denver, Colorado. This is the second year in a row Marietta has been recognized internationally by Smart Cities Connect.
Smart 50 Awards, in partnership with Smart Cities Connect, Smart Cities Connect Foundation, and US Ignite, annually recognize global smart cities projects, honoring the most innovative and influential work. The TrashTalk Sanitation app was given the Community Engagement Award due to the technology behind the app which allows for citizens to better engage with the City’s Public Works Department by viewing changes to the sanitation calendar, scheduling pickups for items, and accessing information about what items can be placed in waste bins.
“I am extremely proud our City has been recognized internationally for the second year in a row for our hard work towards becoming a trend-setting smart city,” said City Manager Bill Bruton. “We are fortunate to have high skilled employees in both our Public Works and IT Departments who listen to our citizens’ concerns and develop ways to make the City more assessible and available to address any issues that arise.”
The TrashTalk app allows citizens to enter items like “glass” or “paint can” or “motor oil” into the search system and will tell you how and where to dispose these items, it will also give you the directions to that specific facility. Additionally, the TrashTalk app has a push notification system that will inform you if there are any changes in normal service days due to inclement weather.
You can still download this app for FREE by visiting your App Store via the iOS system or the Google Play Store and search for “Marietta Trash Talk.” Once you download the app you will be able to enter your address and receive various levels of notifications depending upon your needs.
