Marietta Water is committed to providing our community with high quality drinking water, reliable service, and meeting or exceeding Safe Drinking Water Standards. Our utility has been monitoring for lead and copper in drinking water since the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established the Lead and Copper Rule in the 1990s. This rule was designed to minimize exposure to these substances in drinking water. Results from our lead and copper monitoring program can be found in the annual Water Quality Report, available here: Water Quality Reports
The EPA periodically updates the Lead and Copper Rule to enhance public health protection, especially against lead exposure. Recent revisions require water utilities to proactively identify service line materials and replace any lead service lines. Marietta Water has completed a service line inventory to meet these new state and federal requirements. We are happy to report that no lead service lines were identified in the Marietta Water system.
