The Marietta Police Department Explorer program (think young adults from 14-21 years old) is a GREAT place for teens to make friends, learn valuable life skills and help their local community. A detailed explanation of the program can be found on this web site. Click this link: http://www.mariettaga.gov/252/Explorers
The Explorers are always learning new skills and occasionally compete against other police department teams. A group of team members traveled to a state-wide competition held in middle Georgia in early July 2017 and came in 3rd place overall, beating out (18) other teams. They won 2nd place in a competition titled "Trouble Unknown," 3rd place in "Traffic Stops," and 3rd place Overall! The five team members that participated were as follows: Explorer Chief Brent Gunkle, Explorer Major Taurean Bowe, Explorer Sergeant Karson Gunkle, Explorer Corporal Trevor Bauman and Explorer Carlos "Charlie" Reyes. Brent Gunkle came in FIRST PLACE for an individual pistol competition.
If you know of any young adults between the ages of 14 and 21 that have expressed an interest in law enforcement as a career this is an amazing program!
