MARIETTA - On December 7th, 2017 the Georgia Bureau of Investigation presented the Marietta Police Department with a distinguished award and a Certificate of Excellence. They cited the fact that of the roughly (200) agencies that participate in the task force, The Marietta Police Department effected the largest number of arrests for Child Enticement (child predators who pursued children with the intention of having sex).
According to the GBI Special Agent In Charge Debbie Garner, the task force focuses on (3) primary categories of child crimes: Child Pornography, Child Enticement and Child Sex Trafficking. Garner stated that the data used for the 2017 awards was processed from January 1, 2017 through November 30, 2017. She stated that the task force has made (294) arrests so far this year, with (126) falling into the Child Enticement category.
The Marietta Police Department would like to recognize our dedicated partners; the Kennesaw State University High Tech Unit and the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office High Tech Unit for their assistance in bringing these complex cases to prosecution. Without their help and the diligent legal work of the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office, child predators that were arrested would still be out on the streets looking for new victims.
It takes a mentally tough individual to investigate crimes against children. We appreciate the dedicated, difficult and even “ugly” work they do to help keep our children safe!
