MARIETTA - The Marietta Museum of History presents Black History 4.0, a series of 4 Thursday sessions discussing American black history from a local perspective. Join us in our second series with Marietta’s own Michael Thomas as he focuses on specific Marietta people, places and events that shaped our black community. Guest speakers will also join Michael to share their own experiences or research in this field.
Your registration of $45 is for all four class dates: March 8th, 15th, 22nd, & 29th. Each class runs from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
Topics each week will be as follows:
March 8: Marietta’s Freedmen’s Bureau
March 15: Marietta’s Black Communities and Schools
March 22: Historic Places and Buildings
March 29: People & Progress
The Marietta Museum of History has the responsibility to share and preserve the stories of all individuals. Through this program, we will explore the significant history of the African American community as well as the racial strife we are still struggling with hundreds of years later.
The Museum of History is located at 1 Depot Street, Marietta, GA 30060. Please register at www.MariettaBlackHistory40.eventbrite.com. The Museum uses ordinary objects to tell the extraordinary stories of Marietta and Cobb County’s rich history and culture. Galleries and exhibits cover topics such as military history, home life throughout the centuries, technology and local businesses from our past. Current temporary exhibits include Shoppin' Southern Style: Fashions from the mid-20th Century and More Than Planes: Aviation in Cobb County.
