MARIETTA - Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. is playing at the Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre starting on Friday, June 22 at 8PM for one weekend only through Sunday, June 24. The 60-minute musical, designed for middle-school aged performers, is based on the 2008 Broadway production and the 1989 animated feature film. The rising 8th through 12th grade cast is led by director Meagan Williams.

“On the first day of rehearsal I asked the students, ‘what is this show about?’ It actually provoked lots of thought,” Williams says. “After a great discussion, we ended up realizing that this story is about a girl who doesn’t belong in her own world and tries desperately to get to where she belongs. This theme of belonging is one that our teenagers can so identify with. Who among us has ever felt out of place, isolated or alone in their own world? That is why this ‘tail’ is timeless and so beloved by audiences of all ages.”

This classic Disney title contains all of the songs from the Academy Award® winning animated feature film as well as three new songs from the Broadway show. THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. takes place in a magical kingdom beneath the sea, where a beautiful young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, the king of the sea, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she’s the girl with the perfect voice.

A performance of Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. is open to the public at The Strand on Friday June 22 at 8:00pm, Saturday June 23 at 8:00pm, and Sunday June 24 at 3:00pm. Admission is $10.
