MARIETTA - On Tuesday, April 23rd, at 6:30pm, the Marietta Museum of History will host an Evening with History lecture featuring historian, Alan R. McClarnand. Mr. McClarnand will be here to discuss his research entitled “Catch the Blind Tiger and Drag Him to Court”: The Local Option and Prohibition in Marietta, Georgia, 1880-1920
As Mr. McClarnand states in his exploration “…blind tiger operators all across the state became purveyors of alcohol in dry towns. These bootleggers played a game of “cat and mouse” with local authorities.” Mr. McClarnand’ also delves into Marietta’s race relations during the Jim Crow era and how it related to Prohibition.
The Marietta Museum of History uses ordinary objects to tell the extraordinary stories of Marietta and Cobb County's rich history and culture. Galleries and exhibits cover topics such as military history, home life throughout the centuries, technology and local businesses from our past.
