MARIETTA - Surrounded by festive evergreen trees and pink flamingos, families will enjoy an unseasonably warm Winter Wonderland experience on the Marietta Square. The free event is presented by The Branding Project and benefits the Center for Family Resources (CFR) and Cobb Christmas, nonprofits that serve local low-income families.
• Kids will enjoy sending letters to the North Pole and taking a photo with “tropical” Santa. In exchange for a professional digital photo by Hadley(s) Photography, a toy or cash donation benefiting Cobb Christmas is requested. Cobb Christmas is a nonprofit supporting local low-income families with gifts and toys during the holiday season. Photos with Santa will begin after his arrival after 10 a.m.
• Everyone in Glover Park will enjoy the beach vibe of summer tunes by the Strand Ole Opry.
• Art lovers can watch artists work to create one-of-a-kind reindeer art that will exhibit at Winter Wonderland this December. The live art demonstration will take place on Mill Street in conjunction with the Marietta Square Artisan Market.
• Santa himself will present a major donation from the Winter Wonderland team to the Center for Family Resources.
Why: Christmas in July is a companion event to the square’s Winter Wonderland event in December, created to celebrate the presentation of a major donation to the Center for Family Resources. The donation is made possible by Blue Sky Exhibits, a company that waives its Winter Wonderland production fee in support of the nonprofit.
“The CFR empowers families in our community,” said Don Keller, CEO of Blue Sky Exhibits. “They meet short-term and long-term needs, temporarily supporting families financially while they pursue opportunities to support themselves and their children in the future. It’s a tough program. You get a caseworker and they expose everything – your relationships, your job, your finances, your kids and your kids’ grades. It’s revealing and humbling. But every client who’s been through it says it has changed their life forever.”
According to the Center for Family Resources, its mission is to move people to self-sufficiency through financial stabilization, housing and education.
When: Saturday, July 13, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.; Photos with Santa 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Where: The event will primarily be hosted in Glover Park at the Center of the Marietta Square at 50 N Park Square NE, Marietta. The artist demos will take place at the Marietta Square Artisan Market on Mill Street, adjacent to Glover Park.
