MARIETTA – The City of Marietta is pleased to announce that registration is now available for the City’s Inaugural Youth Government Academy. This FREE seven-week course will begin on Thursday, September 15, 2022.

This course is designed to acquaint youth in our community with the structure of City government and to provide them with pertinent information presented by city staff. This program will also feature tours of city facilities in an entertaining and informative manner.

The academy is open to any high school student living within city limits in grades 9th through 12th (homeschool students included). There will be seven sessions beginning September 15, 2022. A reception and graduation ceremony will complete the course on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the City Council meeting.

Classes will meet in and tour various city facilities. City employees and department heads will give overviews of services provided and answer questions from students. A schedule outlining the topics to be discussed is provided. The location of each meeting will be determined by the nature of the departments’ mission and will be provided to students in advance of each session.

Enrollment is limited to the first twenty-five students to register. Here is the link to the schedule. The application is available here

Registration deadline is Friday, September 9, 2022.

To request additional information about the Youth Government Academy, please contact Pam Peacock in the City Manager’s Office at 770-794-5506 or you may send an email message to Pam at: ppeacock@mariettaga.gov.
