Local breweries team up to craft beers and seltzers using ingredients harvested from historic Marietta gardens.
MARIETTA - The William Root House is excited to welcome Red Hare Brewing & Distilling, Glover Park Brewery, Cherry Street Brewing, Cultivation Brewing Co. and Montane Sparkling Water to the William Root House for "Marietta Roots," a celebration of Georgia crafted beverages and food. The event will be held Friday, September 15, 2023 from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Ticket holders can try a variety of artisanal beers, seltzers, sodas and sparkling waters, many crafted using ingredients harvested from the historic gardens surrounding the c. 1845 house.
The Root House was built in 1845 for Hannah and William Root, early settlers of Marietta. William was one of Marietta’s earliest merchants and its first druggist. Today the house is operated as a museum by Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society, Inc. Historically accurate gardens have been reconstructed on the property. All the plants grown in the garden have been researched for availability in Georgia at the time the house was built. The gardens were recently certified as a Georgia Agritourism Site by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Ingredients harvested by brewers for this year's "Marietta Roots" event include centennial hops, turkey fig, echinacea, lemon balm and wild strawberry.
Those wishing to get a taste will have to purchase a ticket, as these hyper-local beverages will only be available during this special event. In addition to local beverages, food samples will be provided from local restaurants including 1885 Grill and JimPa's Catfish. Live music will round out the evening. Space is limited and it is recommended to purchase tickets online in advance. Tickets are $35 per person in advance and $40 per person at the door. Attendees will receive four drink tickets and two food tickets. Attendees must be 21 or older to sample alcoholic beverages. IDs will be checked at the door. Food and beverage selections available while supplies last.

ABOUT THE WILLIAM ROOT HOUSE: The Root House Museum is the first house museum in the U.S. to offer a fully self-guided touchscreen tour. One of the oldest homes in the Atlanta area, the Root House is more typical of its time and place than the columned mansions popularized by Gone With the Wind. While the home and grounds have been meticulously restored to their 1850s appearance, interactive electronic displays have been added to tell the story of life in antebellum Georgia.
ABOUT COBB LANDMARKS: Since its founding in 1974, Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society, Inc. has succeeded in preserving and protecting some of Cobb’s most historically relevant sites. Cobb Landmarks is a historical society rooted in the past but always looking forward. The organization is committed to empowering the community with an understanding of the events, people, and places that formed our past, so that we may all strive for a brighter future.
