MARIETTA - Plans are underway for the 3rd Annual “Cannon Ball Classic” Golf Tournament, a community outreach event hosted by the Marietta Educational Garden Center (MEGC), a 501c()3 non-profit organization headquartered in Historic Marietta on Kennesaw Avenue. The tournament will take place on Monday, September 18th at the unparalleled City Club Marietta golf course, with all proceeds to support the MEGC “Fair Oaks” historic home and property preservation.

The day begins at 8am with check-in, coffee & biscuits and the chance to purchase mulligans and raffle tickets. The shotgun start is 9am and awards, lunch, and raffle winners will be presented at 1pm.

Foursomes are still available for this fun day on the beautiful City Club links. Registration is $500/foursome and includes a greens fee, tee gift, and lunch. A Mulligan Package (2 per player) can be purchased for an additional $20, and Raffle Tickets are $20 for five tickets.

To register to play, visit mariettagardencenter.com.

The Marietta Educational Garden Center’s historic antebellum home, Fair Oaks c. 1850, is located on Kennesaw Avenue in the Historic District of Marietta. It is home to over 20 Marietta Garden Clubs and the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta. The venue is also used by many other civic organizations and rented out for special events.

City Club Marietta, another significant historical property in our community, represents an integral part of Marietta’s heritage. As stated in the book Marietta Revisited, “The original Marietta Country Club site on Powder Springs St. was the location of the Georgia Military Institute before the Civil War. After the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, it was a hospital and Union cavalry staging area before being burned by Sherman.”
