MARIETTA – On Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Council meeting, Mayor Steve Tumlin, Councilwoman Michelle Cooper Kelly and the Marietta City Council recognized the inaugural legislative body of the Marietta Center for Advanced Academics' Student Council.
Students at the Marietta Center for Advanced Academics had the opportunity to campaign for the Office of Student Council in September 2016. The purpose of school student council representative is to bring schools and communities closer together to solve education problems, improve academics, provide support for teachers and administrators, and bring parents into the decision making process.
Marietta Center for Advanced Academics recognizes the importance of developing young leaders through Student Council. Their Student Council is comprised of 24 student representatives, voted on by their peers. Students completed a campaign process and presented a speech before Election Day. To date, students have completed monthly service learning projects including a toy drive for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, sock donation for MUST Ministries, food drive for the Cobb Center for Family Resources, and sponsoring a school fundraiser.
