The Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) has recognized Marietta Water for outstanding operation of a water and wastewater system. The Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection System of Excellence (Platinum Awards) were presented to Marietta Water staff at the GAWP Conference in November 2019. The evaluation for this award is a rigorous process in which an audit team conducts site visits, interviews and extensive policy and record reviews. The award criteria for each category include staff training and state certifications, safety programs, preventative maintenance programs, standard operating procedures, emergency response programs and safety programs. 

The platinum award designation is given when the utility has achieved the gold award designation for five consecutive years.  To receive the gold award designation, a grade of 95 percent or better is required in all of these categories.
