If you have ever had to take a child to daycare or school, you know the feeling of the morning rush! Lunches are made, bags are packed and out the door you go to the first stop. Once you arrive, you quickly exit your car, grab your child and their belongings to get them into the daycare/school. You leave your car running and your belongings (purse, wallet, briefcase, phone, etc.) in the seat because you are in a hurry and your hands are already full. You come back outside to leave the school/daycare and your car has been stolen! Now what?
The Marietta Police Department would like to remind the community about some important safety tips to prevent oneself from becoming a victim during the morning rush.
- ALWAYS turn your vehicle off and lock the doors *even when at the gas station*
- Take or hide personal items if you are unable to take them with you
- Running late? Call your daycare/school ahead of time and see if they could provide some help with drop-off
- Leave a few minutes earlier to relieve some stress on time
Although there has not been a case like this in Marietta, it does not mean it cannot happen. By following the simple tips above, you can protect yourself from becoming a victim.
