MARIETTA – The Marietta Fire Department is pleased to announce they recently received the 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Safe Kids Cobb County organization.
Each year Safe Kids Cobb County chooses one person or organization as their volunteer of the year. The Marietta Fire Department was honored to receive this award for 2016. Through the Be MFD Safe program, the Marietta Fire Department partnered with Safe Kids in 2016. The MFD performs Home Safety Visits for the citizens of Marietta, and initially began administering Safe Kids Cobb County's child safety kits to households we visited that have small children in the home and need the protection. Later in 2016, Marietta Fire developed certified several personnel as trained car seat safety technicians through the Safe Kids program. The MFD then started a Car Seat Safety Check station at the main fire station located at 112 Haynes Street, with car seat safety checks available on Mondays by appointment.
Safe Kids Cobb County was created in 1991 by its lead agencies—WellStar Health System and Cobb & Douglas Public Health. Since then the coalition has grown to include representatives from community, government, nonprofit, and for-profit organizations.
