There are too many cars parked at my neighbors’ house. Can you make them get rid of some of them?
No. The city of Marietta does not set a limit on the number of vehicles one can have, as long as they are operable and parking standards are met.

1.
Can I park my car on the grass or dirt?
No. The parking of any vehicle (including, but not limited to trailers and boats) on any lot in any district on other than a surface treated and hardened to accommodate vehicles up to 8,000 pounds gross axle weight is prohibited.
2.
Where can I park my boat and utility trailer?
No recreational vehicle shall be allowed to park in the front of the principal structure in a district zoned for residential purposes. It must be parked to the side or rear of the home and on a treated surface.
If the property is located on a corner lot, no parking of the vehicle may occur within 20 feet of the rear side that abuts a public street.
For more information, view Zoning Ordinance
716.09 B (PDF)
3.
My car is located outside, and I can’t afford to repair it right now. Do I have to store it indoors?
The city does not allow outside storage of in-operable or junk vehicles. It must be stored inside a garage or moved to a storage lot.
For more information, view the Marietta Ordinance, Chapter 9-12,
Removal and Storage of Vehicles.

5.
My neighbor has a junk car that I can see from my back deck in their back yard, though it isn't visible from the street or front yard; can you address this?
Yes. Code Enforcement will need you to sign an authorization to enter waiver granting the inspector permission to enter your back yard to take photos of the violation.
Please note that the inspector is obligated to address any and all violations seen from this vantage, not just the item they have been invited in to address.
6.
The license plate on my neighbor’s car has expired. Why don’t you make them get rid of it.
A vehicle is considered operable and is not in violation of the city's Codes of Ordinance if the vehicle:
- Has all tires inflated
- Is road worthy
- Is parked on an approved surface
- Will travel 10 feet forward and 10 feet backward under its own power
The city of Marietta does not enforce expired tags.
