Alice Summerour was first appointed as a non-resident member of the Marietta Board of Lights and Water in 2003.
Careers & Education
Summerour lives in Marietta and is an attorney. She earned her J.D. at John Marshall Law School and she earned a Master of Science degree with a concentration in economics, and a Bachelor of Science in Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Summerour presently serves on the Advisory Board of The Earl Smith Strand Theatre and is a member of the North Georgia State Fair Board. Recently she was appointed to the Cobb Board of Ethics by the Cobb County Solicitor General.
Summerour is a former president of the Leadership Cobb Alumni Association and she served on the Honorary Commanders Association Advisory Board. She graduated in 1994 from the South Cobb Leadership Institute, in 1998 from Leadership Cobb and in 2006 from Honorary Commanders.
She has been active in the Kiwanis Club of Marietta since 1994, and she is a distinguished past president, Hixson Fellow, Walter Zeller Fellowship Recipient as well as being selected as the 1999 and 2002 Kiwanian of the Year.
She is a member and past chairwoman of the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital Regional Health Board. She was appointed to the Cobb SPLOST Citizens’ Oversight Committee in 2008 and has served as chairwoman since 2012.
Summerour has been involved with various civic organizations including the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art, Georgia Tech Alumni Association and the American Cancer Society. She has received several awards including a 2003 Honoree for the YWCA's Tribute to Women of Achievement, 2006 Marietta Kiwanis Club Field of Flags Patriot Award, and the 2008 and 2009 Cobb Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Membership award.
She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Cobb County Bar Association and the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. She is a 6th generation Cobb County native and an 8th generation Georgia native.
