MARIETTA - Marietta Power and Water is celebrating Public Power and Clean Water Week October 1 -7, 2023. This annual observance recognizes the efforts of the hometown utility’s almost 200 employees who serve more than 46,000 industrial, commercial, and residential customers with a mix of electrical power, water, and sewer services since 1906!
Electrical power department employees maintain 22 substations and more than 600 miles of distribution lines. Water and sewer department employees maintain more than 315 miles of underground water mains and more than 295 miles of wastewater mains. According to General Manager Ron Mull, this affords Marietta city residents and businesses safe and affordable services with high reliability. “Community-based utilities can be very responsive to individual customers not only because of geographic closeness, but also because we are governed by a local board of directors. In addition, we also assist with the city’s robust economic development activities.”
Along with recognition and appreciation for staff, the utility continues its community education efforts with the Park Street Elementary School Poster Contest. This year’s theme is “If I worked for Marietta Power and Water!” with a focus on the various desk and field career opportunities the utility provides its community. Winning students will once again be recognized at the October City Council meeting. “We hope to inspire even young students to consider the value of helping their community keep essential services running,” said Mull, “while building a life with a solid career full of benefits.”
