MARIETTA, GA - The City of Marietta is proud to announce that it has been awarded first place in the prestigious 2024 Digital Cities Survey by the Center for Digital Government (CDG) for its innovative technology standards and services. To receive this honor, the City competed against other municipalities across the nation in the “Up to 75,000 Population” category. Marietta is the only city or county in Georgia to have ever received this recognition. This award highlights the City’s commitment to leveraging modern technology and practices for civic solutions, solidifying Marietta’s position as the leader in innovation.
“This recognition reflects the innovative ways we leverage technology to deliver services to our community,” stated Bill Bruton Jr., Marietta City Manager. “It represents years of dedication and collaboration across all departments within our city government. By integrating technology through a central unit, we have created a unified approach for a connected, efficient, and forward-thinking community”
The CDG evaluates municipalities for the Digital Cities Survey Awards, ranking their performance on a variety of technical fronts, such as strategic planning, constituent engagement, transparency, innovation, project management, network infrastructure, and network security. Among other projects, Marietta’s Information Technology Department was recognized for implementing advanced technologies to protect the city’s electric and water grids from cyberattacks, enhancing digital communication tools for improved citizen engagement, and ongoing network infrastructure upgrades that drive the development of new, progressive digital services for the Marietta community. These forward-thinking initiatives strengthen Marietta’s service capabilities and set a benchmark for best practices in digital governance.
“Being ranked as the #1 Digital City in America is an amazing accomplishment,” said Ronald Barrett, Director of Information Technology. “Finishing as the top city against tough competition demonstrates our City leadership’s commitment to supporting technology and its use to creatively overcome obstacles and address challenges. It also recognizes our IT team’s commitment to providing the best possible technology services and solutions for our community. It is their creativity and curiosity that keeps our City at the forefront of new technologies.”
A formal announcement of the award will take place at the Marietta City Council meeting on December 11, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.
