MARIETTA – In conjunction with the end of daylight savings time on Sunday, November 5, 2023, the Marietta Fire Department would like to remind residents to change the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when changing clocks this weekend.

The Marietta Fire Department recommends changing the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors twice a year when changing the time on your clocks.

Smoke alarms are a key part of a home fire escape plan. When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast. Working smoke alarms give you early warning so you can get outside quickly. Important safety tips include installing smoke alarms inside and outside each bedroom and sleeping area, installing alarms on every level of the home, including the basement. It is best to use interconnected smoke alarms so that when one smoke alarm sounds they all sound.
