MARIETTA, GA - The City of Marietta is pleased to announce the preservation of 208 affordable multi-family housing units following its endorsement of the Marietta Housing Authority’s application to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for Low-Income Housing Tax Credits to support the renovation of the Walton Village apartments. This initiative reflects the City’s long-standing partnership with the Marietta Housing Authority to ensure continued access to quality, affordable housing for residents while reinvesting in important community housing assets.

To accomplish this, the Marietta Housing Authority is continuing its partnership with Walton Communities, LLC to renovate and preserve Walton Village apartments, located at 1570 Roberta Drive, as affordable family housing. The project was recently awarded four percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credits by the DCA, allowing the Marietta Housing Authority to issue tax-exempt bonds to finance renovations of the property. The City’s formal endorsement of the bond issuance was provided by Mayor Steve Tumlin during the Marietta Housing Authority Board meeting on January 14, 2026, with renovations expected to begin in March 2026.

The City’s involvement at this site dates back to the early 2000s, when it facilitated a coordinated effort between the Marietta Housing Authority and a financial institution following foreclosure of the dilapidated property, helping set the stage for reinvestment and the development of quality apartment housing. In 2009, then Mayor William B. Dunaway and City Council approved a resolution endorsing the Marietta Housing Authority’s and Walton Communities, LLC’s initial application to the DCA for Low-Income Housing Tax Credits to develop Legacy at Walton Village Phase II, a senior community at the site. These actions laid the foundation for continued investment and long-term preservation of well-maintained, affordable family and senior residences on the property.

“This project is significant to the City’s commitment and to the Marietta Housing Authority’s mission to provide well-maintained, attainable housing in Marietta,” said Mayor Steve Tumlin. “Through our continued partnership, we are supporting reinvestment in an established community and ensuring these residences remain accessible to individuals and families for years to come.”

This housing initiative aligns with the City’s Vision Statement 4 and furthers the goals outlined under this vision, which focuses on offering housing for people of all ages, incomes, and ethnic backgrounds, so that generations of families can live within our city.
