Court Appointed Attorney

In certain circumstances, you may be eligible to have an attorney appointed to represent you.

  • Requests for court appointed attorney are only accepted in open court on your assigned court date.
  • The court will review your case to determine if you are eligible to submit an application.  If you are eligible to submit an application, a clerk will print the application form for you to fill out while you are in court.
  • Upon completion of your application, a clerk will review your information with you.  You will be issued a return court date for two weeks later.  You will also be issued a reminder notice listing the documents you must provide on your return date.  A $50 application fee will be imposed at this time but may be waived later by the court if a hardship exists.

On your return court date:

  • Please check in at the payment window on this date prior to going into the courtroom for further instructions.
  • You will meet with a clerk to review your documents.  Your information will be entered into a program which will determine your eligibility.  If approved, you will receive a new court date to meet with your court appointed attorney.  If denied, you will receive a new court date in order to allow you time to hire an attorney.

If you have requested a court appointed attorney, your case will not be heard until the application process has been completed and determination has been made on whether you are eligible to be appointed an attorney.
