According to the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety, the first year of independent driving is the most dangerous period for beginning drivers based on a mileage exposure. Teens between the ages of 15 and 19 are more likely to be injured or killed as a result of motor vehicle crashes than by any other cause (per Georgia's Teen Driver/Parent Agreement).

In the United States, the fatal crash rate per mile driven for 16-19 year-olds is nearly three times the rate for drivers ages 20 and over (per Insurance Institute for Highway Safety).
