General Business Licenses

Every business operating within the city limits of Marietta must have a current City of Marietta business license. In addition, the applicant must complete notarized affidavits (Affidavit Verifying Status and Private Employer Affidavit), Home-Based Business Acknowledgement Form (for businesses operating out of a residence) and provide copies of appropriate identification. License fees are based on annual gross receipts or the number of employees, whichever is greater.

Alcoholic Beverage Licenses

Any business selling or manufacturing alcohol within the city limits of Marietta must obtain an Alcoholic Beverage License before engaging in the sale or making of alcohol. After completing the Alcoholic Beverage application and related items on the checklist, please send an email to the Business License Division at  BusinessLicense@mariettaga.gov to schedule an appointment. Alcohol License fees are listed on page 2 of the application and are due in certified funds upon submission.

Upon submission of the alcoholic beverage application, the applicant, owners, and agent will undergo a background check by the Marietta Police Department. You will be given instructions on how to submit information to the Police Department during the appointment. The City Manager reviews all new Alcoholic Beverage License applications on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Upon approval, a copy of the alcoholic beverage licenses for consumption on premise or retail package will be sent to the State of Georgia. For all other alcoholic beverage license types, upon approval, you must obtain a copy of the licenses from the Business License Division to send to the State of Georgia. The original alcoholic beverage licenses are held in the Business License Divison until the business obtains a state alcoholic beverage license. A copy of the state license must be brought to the Business License Division. No alcohol may be sold or manufactured until the state license is obtained and the original city licenses are released.

Professional Licenses

Professionals will need to complete an application for a Professional Business License. For the list of professional type businesses, see page 2 of the professional application. License fees are based on a flat fee of $400 per professional or a calculation based on gross receipts or number of employees (choice elected on an annual basis).

Privileged Licenses

Privileged Licenses are required for private detective/security businesses; burglar alarm system installations; and alcohol beverages wholesalers. License fees are listed on page 4 of the application and are due in certified funds upon submission of the application.

Pawn Shop Licenses

Pawn Shop Licenses are required for pawn shops and pawn shop dealers in precious metals and gems. License fees are listed on page 3 of the application and are due in certified funds upon submission of the application.

Transient Vendor/Temporary Business Licenses

Transient Vendor/Temporary Business Licenses are required for businesses that are temporary in nature. These licenses require the prior written consent of the real property owner, are only valid for 45 consecutive days and can only be applied for twice a year. License fees are $150 and are due in certified funds upon submission of the application.

Mobile Retail Food Establishment Licenses

Mobile Retail Food Establishment Licenses are required for businesses operating a mobile food truck. These licenses require the prior written consent of the real property owner. License fees are $95 and are due in certified funds upon submission of the application.

Monthly Occupancy/Excise Taxes

Business License collects monthly occupancy/excise taxes for Malt Beverage Sales, Liquor Sales, Hotel/Motel Revenue and Rental Motor Vehicle Revenue. Payment by cash or check is  due by the corresponding due date listed below. Forms must be postmarked by the post office, either by the 10th or the 20th day to avoid late fees. Or you may pay online.
