Do I need a permit for a banner?
Yes! Banners shall be allowed in nonresidential districts and multi-family districts for a period not to exceed 30 consecutive days and are further limited to 60 total days annually at any location:
- Only one Banner may be displayed on a lot at a time.
- The permit number and expiration date shall be affixed to each permitted Banner.
- Banners shall be removed immediately upon permit expiration.
- Banners may only be located upon a building face that abuts a public street or designated access drive.

When can I put my garbage out?
Garbage may be placed in cans at the curb, on the day of pickup. Cans must be stored at the rear of residence at all other times.

Why am I not allowed to put signs out to advertise my business?
Unless specifically exempted from obtaining a permit, any property owner, business, tenant, agent, or contractor shall be required to obtain a permit prior to the erection, replacement, reconstruction, or relocation of a sign.

Why do I have to clean up the litter and debris on my property when I didn’t put it there?
From the Marietta City Ordinance:
"Every person, whether owner, tenant, agent, or employee owning, holding, or occupying property in the city shall, at all times, maintain the property, whether a vacant lot or otherwise, in a clean and sanitary condition."

My landlord won’t fix anything. Can you help me?
Yes, but first someone whose name is on the lease must sign an authorization to enter form so the residence can be inspected by a Code Enforcement officer.
If there are residential/housing code violations in the report the landlord will be granted 60 days to make the necessary repairs. If the violation constitutes an immediate health or safety issue a 72 hour compliance order can be issued.

Why are you condemning my house just because my electric and water service was turned off for nonpayment?
A person shall not occupy as owner-occupant, or permit another person to occupy, any premises that do not comply the requirements of chapter 4, 5, and 6 of the International Property Maintenance Code.

What can I store outside my home?
No outside storage is permitted with residential uses, only firewood and lawn furnishings are allowed.
