Conditional Offer of Employment

The Fire Chief’s Panel will rank each candidate; based on gathered information, conditional offers of employment will go out to only the top candidates.  The conditional offer is contingent upon the following elements:

Written Examination

The City of Marietta now uses the Accuplacer* next generation reading, next generation writing, and next generation arithmetic for the written test.  Minimum passing scores are 224, 236, and 229 respectively.

*Applicants may waive the Written Examination requirement by providing proof of minimum scores within the previous six months.

Medical Evaluation

Successful candidates to this point will be scheduled for a comprehensive physical examination (NFPA 1582 Standard) and drug screen with a City of Marietta-contracted medical facility.

Polygraph

A polygraph test is administered to verify the information you have given the City of Marietta during this selection process.

Psychological Evaluation

Both the written and interview sections of the psychological testing are administered by a psychologist contracted by the City. The psychologist will review the results of written tests and then interview candidates. This process should take approximately four (4) hours.

Final Offer of Employment

Once candidates successfully complete all stages of the employment process and accepted a final offer of employment, each is provided a start date to begin the Marietta Fire Department Fire/EMS Training Academy.  New Hires will be provided access to City Rules and Regulations, Civil Service Rules and Regulations, and Fire Department Policy and Procedures.  New Hires will complete Orientation with Human Resources on their first day of employment.
